At the national conference of lawyers held in 1992 under the auspices of the Bangladesh Bar Council, the idea of establishing an organisation for providing legal aid and its proposed structure was mooted. Later, in pursuance of this idea, certain steps were taken for establishing a legal aid organisation as a non-profit Trust under the name of Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services Trust (BLAST).
